In the afternoon of November 25, 2015, the launching ceremony of the pilot project of ChemChina E-commerce Platform was held, representing that the development of the e-commerce platform with intellectual property rights has been in full swing. Based on “Internet plus”, this project aims to accelerate the transformation and upgrading from production-oriented manufacturing to service-oriented manufacturing, to integrate traditional business with the emerging Internet industry, and to establish a highly efficient commercial system and innovative commercial model.
At the meeting, the joint project team formed by the information center and several famous technology and consultation suppliers reported the progress, purpose, scope, content and strategy of the e-commerce platform, and made specific arrangements about the forthcoming tasks. According to the plan of ChemChina, the e-commerce platform will develop a comprehensive platform suiting the diversified features of the Group and chemical industry. As the first phase of e-commerce platform development, this pilot project selected ChemChina Petrochemical Co., Ltd. and its four subsidiaries—Shandong Changyi Petrochemical Co., Ltd., Shandong Huaxing Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd., Zhenghe Group Co., Ltd. and Zhonglan Petrochemical Corporation—to establish the platform. At the same time, it will also conduct a requirement survey to lay a solid foundation for building a comprehensive e-commerce platform. Phase One of the project began in November this year, and is scheduled to go online test run on June 1 the next year.
By learning from best practices in the industry and in line with the business and operation situations of the Group, this project will plan, design and develop a self-owned e-commerce platform with the capacity of “one-stop trading and whole-procedure service”, and aims to develop the platform into the most influential e-commerce trade and service platform in chemical industry. As the most important transaction channel of the Group, the platform will fulfill the core marketing and management demand of all sections, so as to increase the sales and efficiency and cut the costs. Besides, this platform will gradually cover upstream and downstream trade services and extend into a system serving multi-facet needs of professional customers, so as to act as a foundation for the Group’s efforts to build an industrial system, transform its development model and make business innovation.
General Manager Yang Xingqiang appreciated the preparation of the e-commerce platform project and arranged the tasks of the next step. According to Yang, due to the industrial trend and the strategy of the Group, it had been a must for ChemChina to build its own e-commerce platform rather than rely on a third-party platform. A self-owned platform is of great significance to enhance the core competitiveness of all sections, improve the operation and management level and develop core business. Currently, it is a key strategy that the Group will shift from a basic and specialty chemicals. Different from the asset-based production-oriented manufacturing model in the past, the Group will grasp the two keywords—“transformation” and “service”—to go beyond the production link at the bottom of the smile curve to cover the whole value chain including R&D, purchasing management, marketing management, logistics service, supply chain financial service and information and data management service; the enterprise will also go beyond the service for itself to cover the value chain service for a broad customer group. E-commerce platform will support this transformation from production-oriented manufacturing to service-oriented manufacturing.
Yang said, attaching great expectations to the pilot project, the Group hoped that the project could accumulate some lessons and experience to further promote the e-commerce platform in all business sections. The project received the appreciation and support from all leaders of ChemChina Petrochemical, which was the key element in the discussion and preparation period. He also appreciated the efforts by the information center and expected it to better coordinate internal and external resources. Besides, he required the project team to make comprehensive survey on demand and design effective program to provide a model for the development of e-commerce platform in other professional companies. The team was also expected to lose no time in making the pilot platform go test run.
Representatives from ChemChina Office of Production and Operation, Bureau of Internal Affairs, Management and Information Department, PR Department, ChemChina Petrochemical and its subsidiaries, China National BlueStar (Group) Co., Ltd., China Haohua Chemical (Group) Corporation, China National Tire & Rubber Corporation, China National Chemical Equipment Corporation, the information center and the project builder team were present at the meeting.
