Climate change has become one of the biggest challenges in the world today. With the rapid development of renewable energies, REC Solar, an overseas enterprise of Bluestar, recently announced that the company will increase investment in automation, technology upgrading, and R&D in order to give full play to the huge potential of solar energy as a kind of renewable energy.
The announcement was made at REC Solar’s Tuas Factory in Singapore, according to which the company will further improve the factory’s productivity and efficiency in Singapore through automation and technical upgrading, and convert the present 1.3GW solar module manufacturing facilities into the TwinPeak series which will achieve higher energy efficiency than ordinary poly-silicon solar cell panels. S Iswaran, Singaporean Minister for Trade and Industry, attended the release ceremony.
The TwinPeak system launched last year by REC Solar comprises 120 high-power solar modules, featuring excellent performance. Compared with standard modules, they can turn more sunlight into electrical energy. The 2.2GW TwinPeak system that REC Solar recently installed in Singapore will increase the annual power generation by157 MWH, which is equivalent to the annual power consumption of 38 apartments, or about 1088 light bulbs. The use of clean energy will lead to an 80t reduction in annual CO2 emissions, which is equivalent to planting 3200 trees. In a country like Singapore where the roof space is very limited, the highly efficient TwinPeak system will be of great significance to commercial, industrial and residential buildings.
The Singaporean government has announced that it will earmark 900 million Singapore dollars (approximately 670 million US dollars) for the R&D of “urban solutions and sustainable development”, as an important measure of the country’s “Research, Innovation and Enterprise Plan 2020 (RIE 2020)”. The investment initiative of REC Solar not only will expand the company’s production capacity for sustainable, reliable and high-performance products, but also is in line with the ambitious clean-energy development plan of the Singaporean government.
In the opinion of REC Solar CEO Steve O’Neil, the ASEAN country attaches great importance to clean energy technology development, which makes it an ideal place for the implementation of REC Solar’s innovative solutions. He hopes that the revolutionary TwinPeak system can give full play to the huge potential of solar energy as a kind of renewable energy and boost the country’s sustainable social and economic development.
