“The temperature of the hot oil pump room is 37℃ and the temperature of the feed pump motors is in normal range.” On August 16, operators outside the FCC unit were carefully checking the temperature of the production site and pumps at the production control center of ChemChina Oil & Gas Daqing Co.
Daqing, in the northwest of Heilongjiang, has experienced many hot days, rainstorms and thunder since July. Therefore, the company has strengthened its inspection of key control points such as the process temperature of equipment to prevent overheating, over-pressure and overloading. It is a part of the “seven preventions” the company conducts for work safety on hot days.
On hot days, the workplace is prone to hazards such as over-heated and high-pressured equipment, and oil and gas volatilization, To ensure orderly production, the company launched the “seven preventions” initiative for work safety on hot days in all divisions. The “seven preventions” is to ward off heat stroke and food poisoning, suffocation, the over-heating, over-pressure and overload of equipment, leakage and the volatilization of light hydrocarbons, oil and gas, fire, flood and thunder and lightning.
In the production department, common items used in summer such as cooling oil and mosquito dispeller are in place. Heatstroke prevention is taught to everybody, and icy water and other cold drinks are available any time. In addition, the company often encourages its employees to take a short break when they have worked outdoors for one hour in the hot afternoon, or avoid to work during the period of time.
To ensure the effective execution of the “seven preventions”, the company’s production workshops call upon its employees to identify the safety hazards under their jurisdiction. It has stirred up initiative among staff members. As a storage and transport plant for crude oil and oil products, the company also monitors the volatilization of combustible gas in the light oil and light hydrocarbon tank zones on hot days. The thermal power plant, water supply, drainage plant and fire staff of the company also have formulated emergency response plans for key areas, locations and equipment and continued with routine inspections as well as the training and drills for emergencies to ensure safe and stable production operation.
