On September 29, Ross McCann, Executive Chairman of Qenos, an overseas division of ChemChina, won the 2010 Chemeca Medal in recognition of his great contribution to the chemical engineering industry in Australia and New Zealand.
The Chemeca Medal is the most prestigious award in the chemical engineers profession in Australia and New Zealand. It is awarded to a prominent Australian or New Zealand chemical engineer who has made an outstanding contribution, through achievement or service, to the practice of chemical engineering in its widest sense and who continues to serve the profession.
Accepting the award at the Chemeca Awards of Excellence dinner in Adelaide, Ross said, "I am surprised and very honored to be given this extremely prestigious award, and I thank the panel for giving me this recognition."
A graduate of the University of New South Wales in Chemical Engineering (Hons) in 1969, Ross was recognized for his extensive executive experience in the fields of chemical, petrochemical and mineral resources. After eight years as CEO, Ross was recently appointed Executive Chairman of Qenos, Australia's sole manufacturer of polyethylene.
Afterward, the award-winner will attend the annual Chemical Engineering conference and make a key-note speech.
Not long ago, Ross McCann was recognized as a 2010 Honor Roll Member at the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards for his contribution to the petrochemical industry.
Qenos is the largest manufacturer of ethylene and the only manufacturer of polyethylene in Australia, which gives it a leading role in the local polyethylene market.
