The Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Development Center submitted a performance report on research work it did for the National Project 863, and, after a panel review, received approval of the work, in Hangzhou, on Sept 12, 2012. The research was on technology for a reverse osmosis membrane and its industrialization, with assistance provided by the Guiyang Shidai Huitong Membrane Technology Co, Hangzhou Beidouxing Membrane Production Co, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry. Senior company officials and more than 20 major researchers took part.

The level of desalination in this reverse osmosis membrane process, which is used for seawater desalination, was 99.8 percent and, for a low-pressure reverse osmosis membrane, 99.36 percent. Both are at the international level. What’s more, domestic production lines of sea water desalination and low pressure reverse osmosis membrane and its components have been applied in the demonstration project.

When this Chinese desalination reverse osmosis membrane was used the first time in a 10,000-ton/day facility, it was an historic event and a breakthrough in Chinese membrane technology. It helps the country’s membrane business, industry development, and the foreign monopoly on it.
