The Bluestar Yima Chrome Chemical Materials Co wants to help both company expansion and harmonious corporate development, so it has adopted an employee-first strategy that provides more worker care, and is giving production and the worker “happiness index” equal amounts of attention. Actually, this notion of a “happiness index” has become a popular topic among the Chinese and is more frequently referred to, after China Central Television ran some interviews based on the question, “Are you happy?”, in one of its news programs.
To improve its own people’s “happiness index”, Bluestar Yima sent greetings to each and every employee on their birthday starting at the beginning of the year, in addition to its traditional practice of sending gifts and bonuses to workers on holidays and festivals. When an early cold front arrived, Bluestar Yima immediately turned on the heating, ahead of schedule, and prepared cotton jumpers and protective shoes for employees. The company recently held its annual physical checkup for employees. These moves have made the employees feel that they are a part of the corporate family and have improved their “happiness index”.
When the employees are happy with their lives and work, naturally the company runs more efficiently. And, even in a time of crisis, Bluestar Yima has not laid off workers or lowered their pay. Instead, it sticks to a people-first policy, to stimulate the enthusiasm and creativity of employees, and come up with practical production and operation plans. The company reports that it has received 256 suggestions on energy conservation and reduced consumption, this year, 218 of which were implemented in production and operations. These suggestions have helped the production process and have improved methods and product quality and cut production costs significantly. At the same time, 30 continuous improvement projects were put into effect leading to 280,000 yuan worth of savings or profits. Also, two green-belt projects in the continuous improvement program were re-enforced, leading to 500,000 yuan in savings or profits.
