Adisseo and Novozymes, both giants in the global animal nutrition and feed additive industry, have recently announced to launch Alterion, a probiotic product for poultry in the United States, Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Alterion is derived from the bacillus subtilis, a soil-born natural element that can suppress the growth of gastrointestinal bacteria in animals, and is good for the intestinal health of animals once added to the feed and will increase the feed conversion rate by 2% to 2.5% so as to reduce the feed consumption in the poultry farming industry.
The product is the result of collaboration between the two giants. Novozymes conducted in vitro tests by leveraging their expertise in biotechnology and was responsible for the development and production of Alterion, while Adisseo, an expert in animal nutrition, oversaw in vivo tests and product marketing.
Global clinical experiments have proved the properties and mode of action of Alterion. Adisseo CEO Jean-Marc Dublanc believed that it showed that it's right time to launch the product and Adisseo had confidence that the new product would satisfy customers who preferred sustainable and economical solutions.
“By combining our expertise, we’ve successfully developed the probiotic with outstanding and stable performance. It will help enhance intestinal health, increase the feed conversion ratio and thus reduce the use of antibiotics in poultry farming,” said Helle Warrer Poulsen, Novozymes Vice President for animal health and nutrition, “The animal farming industry is in desperate need of sustainable production, to which Alterion can lend a helping hand.”

More and more countries have started to curb the use of antibiotic growth promoter that has been used for decades to prevent drug resistance of human body in antibiotic treatment. The probiotic, an active microorganism, works very well in stabilizing the intestinal flora of poultry and livestock and is representing a brand new trend of the industry. It can not only improve animal health and increase the animal growth rate and feed utilization rate, but also help save resources and sustain the development of the global animal farming industry.

Adisseo and Novozymes predict that the global probiotic market may reach a volume of 200-300 million euros and grow by 8% to 10% per year. Through collaboration, the two companies will become forerunners in the sector of animal probiotics and commit themselves to promoting the fast growth of the market.
