Recently, the 9th International Exhibition of Inventions (Kunshan) (IEIK 2016), which was organized by the International Federation of Inventors Association (IFIA) and China Association of Inventions, was wrapped up. Lehigh’s patented “treatment of total nitrogen in nitrogen-containing chemical wastewater” won the silver prize of “Invention and Startup Project Award”. In recent years, Lehigh has been attaching great importance to intellectual property management, its number of patent applications and quality kept rising and a batch of excellent patent results have been promoted and applied. In 2016 alone, Lehigh applied for 35 patents, 22 of which were granted, including 21 invention patents, breaking its annual record of the number of granted patents. Over the years, Lehigh has always placed great importance to technical innovation and kept increasing investment in science and technology. In 2016, it invested RMB28 million in its R&D programs of scientific research funds, building of scientific & technological innovation platform, as well as improvement of R&D approaches, soft environment and facilities, etc. Meanwhile, Lehigh pays high attention to improvement of patent application quality and protection of patent portfolio, keeps strengthening its intellectual property management, has been approved as “Company with IP Advantages” and included in the list of “priority projects under Jiangsu's business IP strategy implementation plan” and passed the onsite supervisory audit of the national IP management system. In addition, Lehigh keeps strengthening training, invites experts to give lectures and sends persons to participate in relevant trainings at all levels.
In order to increase the technical innovation capability of scientists and engineers, Lehigh and Jiangsu Patent Information Service Center have signed a cooperative agreement on cooperation in the aspects of characteristic database, IT-based intellectual property management, navigation of key technical patents and exploration into new model of intellectual property assets operation, etc. Recently, Lehigh has officially launched its patent database and IT-based IP management platform, making it convenient for scientists and engineers to apply for patent and conduct retrieval and analysis.
Lehigh has promoted and applied a batch of excellent patented technologies and accelerated its commercialization of research findings. The “treatment of total nitrogen in nitrogen-containing chemical wastewater” takes HDCM denitrified microbial agent that is independently developed by Lehigh as carrier and adopts a two-stage process to treat high-concentration and degradation resistant industrial wastewater including coked wastewater, thereby effectively increasing the efficiency of removal of total nitrogen and reducing the treatment costs. As a leading patented technology in China, it provides key technical supports for Lehigh to undertake Qinghai Salt Lake Integrated Wastewater Treatment Project. Lehigh actively uses its technical know-how “beneficiation agent and eco-friendly microbial agent”, which is a new and high-tech product of Jiangsu Province, vigorously develops the market, provides support services for production, distribution and lump-sum contracting, and has gained positive economic and social benefits. In addition, its two proprietary technologies for environmental protection ("the technology of using coupling efficient microbial agents to treat high-ammonia-nitrogen wastewater" and the "technology of comprehensively treating and recycling industrial wastewater containing phenol and organic acid") were recommended by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation as “key supporting technology (equipment) for environmental protection and clean production in the petrochemical industry” and listed by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology in “Technical Guidance of Jiangsu Province for Water Pollution Control” in 2016, respectively.
