Tianhua Institute Finishes Supervising the Manufacture of China''s First and World''s Largest Reactors

Recently, Nanjing Sanfang Chemical Equipment Supervision Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Nanjing Sanfang”), affiliated to Tianhua Institute, has enjoyed a stream of good news. It has completed the supervision on the manufacture of the fluidized-bed residue hydrogenation reactor and double super-fluidized-bed residue hydrogenation reactor for Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company. As the first reactors in China and the largest reactors in the world, the two reactors have created a new milestone for Tianhua Institute in the field of supervision.

The fluidized bed residue hydrogenation reactor is the R8102 two-stage hydrogenation reactor of the 2.6 million tons / year fluidized-bed residue hydrogenation unit for Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company. With the inner diameter of 4,850mm, total length of 71.415m, thickness of 322+7.5mm, overall weight of 2389t, and material 21/4Cr - 1Mo - 1/4V (double-layer surfacing: TP.309L+TP.347), it is the largest hydrogenation reactor with the strictest design requirements and the most complicated internal structure in the world currently. Since it is the first reactor in China, difficulties in manufacture and test turn out to be great. There are very high requirements for the materials, welding, assembly size, nondestructive testing and thermal treatment of the equipment. Especially, the assembly size of inner parts is the key and difficulty during the manufacture.

In order to ensure timely delivery of the reactor, Nanjing Sanfang has set up a project supervision team of excellent and professional supervision talents to carry out detailed supervision jobs. In the process, supervisors carefully review every key dimension to ensure the assembly size of internal parts meeting the requirements of drawings, and strictly check every process. In the face of various difficulties in the process of manufacturing, they negotiated with related project parties actively and worked out ideas together, and finally achieved the effective process control of the two-stage hydrogenation reactor. After the hard work of one year and four months, the reactor started lifting at 10 a.m. on April 11, and was delivered to the customer smoothly.

The double super-fluidized-bed residue hydrogenation reactor is the R8101 one-stage hydrogenation reactor of the 2.6 million tons / year fluidized-bed residue hydrogenation unit for Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company. It is the largest double super-fluidized-bed residue hydrogenation reactor by weight in the world. The successful completion of the hydraulic test for the reactor on April 12 marks that the 2.6 million tons / year fluidized-bed residue hydrogenation unit manufactured for Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company under the supervision of Nanjing Sanfang has obtained important phased results.
