Elkem, an overseas subsidiary of Bluestar, will invest NOK 1 billion (approximately RMB 790 million) to install an energy recovery unit in its Salten plant. The new unit has a recovery rate of 28% and will save electricity equivalent to the consumption of 15,000 households.
The production of silicon alloy is highly energy-intensive. Elkem adopts an entire system to maintain high SHE standard, improve energy efficiency, make better use of natural resources, and reduce emissions. Currently, Elkem saves around 900 billion kilowatt-hours per year, a leading level in the industry. According to Helge Aassen, CEO of Elkem, his company has always been paying close attention to energy recovery and the new project will help Elkem achieve its goals for energy conservation and emission reduction, make it more environment-friendly, and enhance its competitiveness in the market.
